Now in its 7th year, camexpo’s CAM Clinic of the Year Award recognises the best clinics in the country. We caught up with David Ruddick, principle osteopath and co-owner of Summertown Clinic in Oxford, which won in 2014 (and was a finalist in 2013).
What did winning CAM clinic of the year in 2014 mean to you?
I was very taken aback and felt extremely honoured to receive the prestigious camexpo clinic of the year award 2014 on behalf of the Summertown Clinic Oxford. Last year was the clinic’s 40th anniversary and to achieve the recognition of CAM at this time was a brilliant acknowledgement of everything we have achieved.
Winning this award has been a great encouragement to all our practitioners and staff, who work extremely hard at providing the best quality care on a day to day basis. It has also been re-assuring for apprehensive prospective patients and at the same time motivated us to continue making improvements.
What are your top tips for running an award-winning clinic?
At Summertown Clinic we have focused on patient care and invested in our staff. Patient care is at the centre of all that we do and by having a variety of professions, we feel we are able to collaborate and give patients the most appropriate treatment from all of our therapies. We have never stood still or rested on our laurels and strive to make continuous improvements in our daily work.
What has been your biggest challenge so far?
In an ever changing world, our biggest challenge is keeping up to date whilst still maintaining an efficient and professional approach in patient care. As dedicated Practitioners we spend a lot of time keeping abreast of new clinical evidence and research and on CPD so that we stay informed about our therapy areas. camexpo helps get a broader view of things in related areas of national health.
What do you love most about your job?
After almost 50 years in practice I still love the variety of patients and that no 2 cases are the same. Listening to, advising and treating patients is indeed a privilege and very satisfying - seeing sometimes profound changes towards full health and well-being.
How has winning camexpo’s ‘CAM clinic of the year’ in 2014 benefited the business since? – any plans for the near future?
Winning the award has helped by using it in our marketing to attract the very best staff and Practitioners. We feel that by having such a strong team that patients will benefit in the care and treatment they receive from the minute they pick up the phone to us. Continually improving patient care means continuing progress for all of us.
Why would you recommend other practitioners to nominate their own clinics, and visit camexpo 2016?
camexpo is a multidisciplinary exhibition and it’s a great way to keep up to date with changes across our associated professions. Self-development is a really important part of success and anyone visiting camexpo 2016 will learn something new and benefit from this.
