What are your New Year’s resolutions for 2016?
The start of a new year is the perfect time to take stock, reflect on our achievements and set goals. From signing up to a training or workshop course, to blogging or writing a new book – here’s some resolutions our camexpo visitors and speakers have set themselves for the new year.
Anne-Marie Rose, complementary therapist (Holistic Massage & Reflexology) and founder of Rose Holistic Treatments:
I’m looking forward to going on a hot stone massage workshop at the end of this month (one of the wonderful prizes from last year’s camexpo). I also wish to continue to support the local community and show how taking the time for regular massage or reflexology sessions can be beneficial. I’m really looking forward to taking an additional clinic from February in a beautiful building in central Bath. Being busy, I definitely need to schedule in some regular “me time” and also incorporate regular mindfulness sessions. Finally, I’m really looking forward to visiting camexpo again this year to see what is new in the holistic therapy field!
Rochelle Lewis, holistic complementary therapist:
Many have retired by my age, but this life is too short so I’m carrying on with what I believe in, namely to enable people to benefit from massage/aromatherapy. Right now the NHS seems strangely resistant to the benefits, especially for those with mental health issues, who have PTS, or bereavement. I want massage to be seen for the healing it can promote. This year I am embarking on creating some consciousness raising for the professional staff where they can learn that after 25 years experience I have another useful tool to add to the recovery process during a hospital stay. My second resolution is to start blogging, and lastly, to make the most of camexpo 2016.
Dionne Henry, clinical aromatherapist:
My New Year’s resolution is adopting a mission statement for myself: ‘that a can’t do approach won’t do, and that a will do approach must do.’ My target is to leave my current post of nearly 30 years to concentrate on building my own business. I have through camexpo been bitten by the Jing Institute bug. Having signed up to do one of their Foundation courses in 2014, I am now embarking on the Jing journey bus, doing their Advanced Clinical Massage Summer of Soul course in Aug 2016, to be the best therapist I can be. And of course, I’m looking forward to attending camexpo 2016 – what I call, an Aladdin’s cave of expo!
Zuzana Krop, massage therapist at Delicate Touch Inverness Therapy & Massage Success:
Additional education is always on my top priority list, therefore I aim to attend at least two trainings/ workshops this year. Later this month I will be attending The Anatomy Trains workshop, something I discovered at camexpo 2015, and I’m planning to learn more about fascia in the next months. Personal development including keeping up to date with health and wellbeing information, and constantly improving my services for my clients is part of my weekly routine.
Rashid Messoudi, medical herbalist (phototherapy/nutrition correction/natural therapies):
I am starting 2016 with the confirmation of my new job as TV presenter for a weekly health programme (in Arabic). Whilst taking a one-year course in the clinical use of essential oils, which promise to replace antibiotics, and with specialisation in the natural treatment of chronic degenerative diseases.
Yelena P, personal trainer, nutritional adviser & director of Mango Fitness:
In 2016, I hope to bring the best of new ground breaking nutritional research to Mango Fitness. One of our resolutions is to introduce a broader range of products to cater to our clients’ needs – we are already preparing some new product ranges (some coconut and bee products), and more delicious and nutritious products for lactose/gluten intolerances. The huge demand for food intolerance tests and hormonal tests is also something we will be looking into further, so keep a look out for that soon. Happy and a healthy New Year to you all!
Zoe Campbell, event director of camexpo:
My New Year’s resolution is to meet even more practitioners and suppliers face to face in their practices and offices. That way I can better understand their evolving needs, so we can continue to provide the best possible education programmes at camexpo. Sometimes we spend too much time relying on phones and emails, and there is no substitute for seeing things with your own eyes!
Clare Blake, founder of Fertility Massage Therapy & Training:
I am excited to see how fertility massage evolves and grows over the year, as there are lots of exciting courses planned around UK, Ireland, Bali and South Africa! This means more therapists worldwide who will experience deep healing and reconnection to their wombs, wisdom and divine feminine.
Tracey Smith, reflexology and research manager, Association of Reflexologists
For 2016, apart from world-wide peace which is an ultimate yet unlikely resolution, I would most like to see more research into reflexology published. I know of a few publications on the horizon, but I am hoping that other studies will come to foreground. For me research is very important and helps to build good solid practice and businesses!
Helen Bullen, osteopath and founder of award winning multi-healthcare clinic Fine Fettle:
The biggest challenge this year, and one I’m most excited about, is finally writing my book! I’m not talking a full blown novel, but it’s going to be about how I built my successful multi-healthcare clinic, full of ideas of things to do, and not to do when growing your healthy business.
James Earls, bodyworker (specialising in myofascial release and structural integration) at Anatomy Trains:
To get up and running! I did Anatomy Trains for walking last year and I’m looking forward to getting my teeth into the mechanics of running and elastic recoil. I’m working with Shane Benzie of ‘RunningReborn.co.uk’ - look out for a book and workshops coming up towards the end of the year.
Michael Watson, Chair of the CNHC:
Overall, I want to see complementary therapies becoming far more widely available as part of mainstream healthcare. Practitioners registered with CNHC demonstrate their commitment to standards, and as such are stepping up to be part of this picture. I very much look forward to working with the CNHC team this year to take this forward. Four areas I believe are key issues for the complementary healthcare sector for 2016 can be found in my camclub article – here.
